WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 9 crocodile clips
  • an LED
  • 8 copper pennies
  • 8 zinc coated nails
  • 4 lemons
  • a chopping board
  • a knife

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Cut all of the lemons in half and make a small slit with the knife to insert the copper penny.
  2. Insert one penny per half lemon. Then insert the zinc nail as close to the penny as possible but make sure the nail and penny do not touch each other.
  3. Once this has been done attach one end of the crocodile clip to a zinc nail in one half lemon and the other end of the crocodile clip to a copper coin in another half lemon, and do this to connect all the lemons.
  4. However, make sure that for one of the lemons you have one end of the crocodile clip attached to the zinc nail and the other end not attached to anything. Whereas in one of the other lemons you have one end of the crocodile clips attached to the copper penny and the other end not attached to anything.
  5. Now take these two loose ends and attach them to the two legs of the LED. It should light up!

Tip: If your LED doesnt light up make sure the pennies and nails are not touching inside the lemons. Also make sure the crocodile clips do not touch anywhere. It is important that the nails and pennies are very close together inside the lemon. If your LED still doesn't light up then try adding more lemons.

PARENT TIP:

Instead of throwing all these lemons in the bin, why not put them in a zip lock bag and put a couple in with a load in the dishwasher to help keep it clean and smelling fresh
